Puppet Camp!

A weekly outdoor camp for youth ages 5-12 featuring puppetastic projects and staff.

This free camp includes workshops, performances, games and of course puppet build projects, hosted within the Detroit Puppet Company Outdoor Amphitheater and Community Greenspace.

2025 Puppet Camp

Participants in the 2025 Puppet Camp will work on daily puppet projects that explore a variety of puppet styles from around the world. These projects include puppet builds and workshops that use paper, plastic, cardboard and textile materials to create large scale and small scale operable figures, staged in short performed scenes. Older campers will explore the cultural resonance behind each puppet style’s origins, and present their findings to younger campers. By the end of the week campers will have a solid understanding of the origins of multiple puppet styles, how to build their own puppet in a variety of mediums, and how to use puppets as a vehicle for creative expression of their own design.

Registration Information

2025 Puppet Camps at the Detroit Puppet Company run from 9am-4pm Monday through Friday of the weeks specified. Camp is held at the Detroit Puppet Company’s Outdoor Amphitheater and Public Greenspace, 2221 Carpenter, Detroit (on the border of Hamtramck.) Attendees must be able to attend each day of camp.

There is no cost to participate in the Detroit Puppet Company’s Puppet Camp, but each camper must register to guarantee their spot. If the camp fills up, there is a waiting list to sign up for any spots that may become available. This camp is free due to generous sponsorship from the City of Detroit’s Department of Housing and Revitalization, and this year camp participants will receive free lunches as part of Forgotten Harvest’s lunch program.

Campers will be grouped by age, with activities structured accordingly. At times all campers will participate in activities together, while at other points in the day campers will participate in activities structured by age groups. You will be able to select the group you feel best fits your camper’s abilities when you register.
